Wankai New Materials: production capacity and technology
Two production bases, 3 million tonnes of PET a year, equipment from leading global manufacturers and an accredited laboratory: what makes Wankai resin consistent.
Wankai New Materials is one of China's largest producers of PET resin. Founded in 2008, the company is ranked among the Top 500 private enterprises of China and is listed on the ChiNext board in Shenzhen. Here is how its production is organised and what that means for buyers in Central Asia.
Two bases, one standard
Wankai's capacity is 3 million tonnes of PET per year. Production is located at two bases:
- Haining, Zhejiang province — the company's first production base, in the Yangtze River Delta;
- Fuling, Chongqing — a site at the crossroads of the Belt and Road routes and the Yangtze River Economic Belt. It is the Wankai base closest to Central Asia.
Both sites work to a single quality standard. For deliveries to Central Asia, location matters: the closer the base, the shorter the cargo's journey to your warehouse.
Technology
PET production involves two key stages, melt-phase and solid-state polycondensation, and at each of them Wankai relies on solutions from recognised suppliers:
- Melt polycondensation — China Kunlun technology. At this stage the monomers are converted into a polymer, which is then pelletised.
- Solid-state polycondensation — BÜHLER equipment (Switzerland). The pellets are held at elevated temperature in the solid state: viscosity rises to bottle-grade level and the acetaldehyde content falls.
- Process control — Honeywell DCS. The distributed control system provides centralised control of production and helps keep process parameters stable.
Quality control and certificates
Quality is confirmed by the plant's own laboratory, accredited to ISO/IEC 17025. Food-grade resins meet FDA and EU requirements for direct food contact. The plant's customers include Coca-Cola, Nestlé and Danone.

- Consistency. A controlled process and laboratory testing aim at uniform properties from lot to lot, which means fewer line adjustments and fewer rejects.
- Direct work with the plant. The representative office works directly with Wankai, with no intermediaries and no negotiations in Chinese.

- Documents. Quality certificates, certificates of analysis (CoA) and specifications come with every shipment; the contract and documents are in Russian.
